Formation and Organization. (Mar 37 - Nov 38)

Formed 1 July 1936 at Norderney (ex-elements of 1.(M)/Fliegergruppe (See) 106) with He 60 floatplanes. On 1 July 1937 it was re-designated 1.(M)/Küstenfliegergruppe 506, but re-established the same date at Dievenow (new) with He 60s.[1]


North Germany. (Mar 37 - Oct 39)

25 Aug 39: 7 days prior to the outbreak of war, the Staffel dispatched He 60 (K6+YH) from Dievenow to search for Polish destroyers in the Baltic.

1 Sep 39: at Dievenow with 12 He 60s under Stab/Küstenfliegergruppe 706. During the first month of the war, the Staffel flew reconnaissance over the Baltic and Kattegat to keep watch for enemy warships and to track enemy and neutral commercial shipping.

4 Sep 39: all or elements said to have deployed to the seaplane base at Bug auf Rügen, but this needs to be confirmed.

22 Sep 39: He 60 (K6+QH) force landed in Swedish territorial waters off Ystad during a reconnaissance sortie and was interned along with its crew of Oblt. Grosse and Oblt.z.S. von Rabenau.

25 Oct 39: renamed 3./Kü.Fl.Gr. 806 at Dievenow.
