Formation. (December 1944)
Formed on or about 1 December 1944 (Feldpost change entered 13 January 1945), probably at Rakowice in northern Poland to the north-northeast of Posen (Poznań) (ex-3./NAGr. 4). Initially equipped with 9 Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-8/R5, 1 Bf 109 G-6, 1 Bf 110 G-2 and 4 Bf 110 G-3. Three additional Bf 109Gs were received during December while two of the Bf 110s were sent off for overhaul.[1]
Poland and Germany. (December 1944 - May 1945)
January 1945: withdrew from northern Poland following the beginning of the Soviet winter offensive along the Vistula in mid-January and redeployed to Silesia where the Russians were advancing toward the Oder at Breslau and Oppeln.
4 February 1945: at Schweidnitz (Swidnica)/53 km south-west of Breslau under Stab/NAGr. 15.
19 February 1945: a Bf 109 G-14 shot down and a Bf 109 G-6 damaged in an engagement with Russian aircraft - location not reported.
25 February 1945: Bf 109 G-8 shot up by AA-fire over Pl.Qu.42639 (Silesia), 20%.
28 February 1945: Bf 109 G-8 shot down by AA-fire in Pl.Qu.42464 (Silesia), 100%, pilot MIA.
8 March 1945: now at Bautzen-Litten/50 km east of Dresden in Saxony under Stab/NAGr. 15. From there, the front area along the Oder at Breslau was but 175 km to the east, a relatively short flight in a Bf 109.
16 April 1945: Bautzen-Litten with 14(12) Bf 109 G-6s and G-14s on strength.
18 April 1945: transferred to Reichenberg (Liberec)/90 km NNE of Prague.
3 May 1945: Reichenberg (Liberec) under Stab/NAGr. 15.
