16./Fl.Verb.Geschw. 2

Formation and History. (Oct 43 - May 45)

Formed on or about 1 October 1943 at Salonika/Greece by renaming Kurierstaffel Südost. Assigned to Heeresgruppe E (Salonika).

20 Nov 43: Salonika.

14 Dec 43: Fi 156 bombed on the ground at Fp. Athens-Tatoi, 30%.

15 Aug 44: still based at Salonika.

Oct 44: Greece and the southern half of Yugoslavia evacuated.

27 Nov 44: Staffel now at Sarajevo-Butmir with 2 He 111s, 2 Ju 52s, 5 Fi 156s and 1 Fh 104. Still assigned to H.Gr. E. It is believed that during the next month or two 16./Fl.Verb.Geschw. 2 was merged with 15./Fl.Verb.Geschw. 2. After 25 Mar 45, H.Gr. E became the only Heeresgruppe in the Balkans and continued there to the end of the war.
