17./LLG 1


Formation

Ordered formed December 1942 at Berlin-Döberitz from assets provided by Erprobungskommando XI. Fliegerkorps as an experimental Staffel using He 111 bombers to tow DFS 230 gliders by means of a rigid bar-type assembly rather than a cable. It transferred to Crimea to join the rest of LLG 1, and operated from Kerch IV airfield from February to April 1943, when it departed Crimea and moved to Hildesheim. Here it was augmented with additional assets, and then ordered to Orange - Plan-de-Dieu airfield in S France in June, where it was renamed DFS-Staffel 23 shortly after its arrival.


History

5.2.43: He 111 crash landed a Bagerovo airfield/Crimea, 40%.

26.2.43: He 111 danaged in a take-off collision at Bagerovo, 45%.

14.3.43: He 111 crashed near Bagerovo, 100%, 6 killed.
