Formation. (April 1941)
Formed 1 April 1941 at Travemünde/Schleswig-Holstein (new) with Heinkel He 60 floatplanes.1
Greece and the Aegean Sea. (May 1941 - May 1943)
May 1941: transferred from Travemünde via Varna/Bulgaria to Nauplion/Greece in mid-May, and then a few days later moved to seaplane strong points on Leros and Volos in the Aegean.
July 1941: with the Aegean now secured and the gradual arrival of Italian reinforcements, the Staffel transferred to Skaramanga (Salamis) near Athens around July.
September 1941: began re-equipping with Dutch Fokker T-VIII-W twin-engine seaplanes and Arado Ar 196 floatplanes at Skaramanga, but these plans were abandoned and around the end of May 1942 the Staffel’s remaining Fokkers (perhaps 5 of them) were handed over to 1./Aufkl.Gr. 126.
4 April 1942: Skaramanga - Staffel reported 8(6) Fokker T-VIII-Ws and He 60s on strength.
10 May 1942: Skaramanga with 16(10) T-VIII-Ws, Ar 196s and He 60s.
20 June 1942: Skaramanga with 11(7) Ar 196s and He 60s.
16 July 1942: transferred 8 He 60s with 5 officers, 28 NCOs and 35 men from Skaramanga to Suda/Crete, leaving 2 Ar 196s, 7 NCOs and 15 men behind at Skaramanga.
20 September 1942: Staffel renamed 9./KG 100 - see Stab/Aufkl.Gr. 126 for details.
20 January 1943: redesignation cancelled and once again as 3./Aufkl.Gr. 126.
May 1943: renamed 3./Seeaufklärungsgruppe 126 at Skaramanga, although the order formalizing this change in designation (Gen.St.d.Lw.- Gen.Qu.2.Abt.Nr.9281/43g.Kdos.) was not issued until 13 July 1943.
