Formation. (March 1943)
Formed March 1943 at Jesau/East Prussia (ex-6.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 32) and equipped with Messerschmitt Bf 110 twin-engine fighters.[1]
Central Russia. (April 1943 - August 1943)
April 1943: in transfer from Jesau to the Orel area with 9 Bf 110 G-3. The Staffel’s station in the Orel area is not know with certainty, but it is believed to have been at Rybnitsa to early July and then at Pankovo.
4 May 1943: Bf 110 G-3 (L8+AL) shot down by a fighter - location not reported,
100%, Oblt. Ernst Klatt. (pilot) + 2 others MIA.
7 May 1943: Bf 110 G-3 shot down by AA fire - location not reported, aircraft marked (L8+HL), 100%. 3 MIA.
19 May 1943: Fi 156 belonging to 3./NAGr. 3 destroyed during low-level Russian air attack on Rybnitsa airstrip/45 km south of Orel, 100%.
19 June 1943: Bf 110 G-3 crashed south-east of Orel due to engine trouble, 70%, 1 injured.
12 July 1943: Bf 110 G-2 severely damaged in crash at Pankovo airstrip/20 km south of Orel, 70%.
24 July 1943: Bf 110G (L8+DL) failed to return from a recce sortie along flight path Sevsk-Lgov-Kursk-Fatezh, 100%, 3 MIA.
24 July 1943: Bf 110G shot down in Pl.Qu.5342 (Kursk salient). 100%. crew safe.
4 August 1943: Bf 110 G-3 crash landed at Warsaw. 15%.
5 August 1943: Bf 110 G-3 damaged on take-off from Warsaw. 40%.
August 1943: Staffel returned to the Reich via Warsaw (as noted above) and ultimately arrived at Wertheim near Würzburg with 7 Bf 110 G-3 where it was renamed 4./Z.G. 76 on or about 28 August 1943.
