6.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 12

(Code: (H1 + )

Formation and Training. (Jan 41 - May 41)

Formed around January 1941 at Antwerpen/Belgium, Münster-Loddenheide or possibly at Royan/W France, with Henschel Hs 126s using assets provided by 2.(H)/12, although the date of the order for the Staffel’s formation may have been somewhat earlier, possibly in November 1940. The location of the Staffel’s formation is just not certain from the few surviving documents.[1]

22.2.41: the Staffel reported a man injured in a crash near Royan while flying in a plane belonging to 2.(H)/12.

14 Apr 41: departed Royan for Botosani/Romania.

South Russia. (Jun 41 - Apr 42)

22.6.41: Staffel at Botosani/NE Romania under Koluft AOK 11/Heeresgruppe Süd for the attack on the Soviet Union this date, and assigned to support XI. Armeekorps along a line of advance from the starting positions on the Prut (Pruth), across South Ukraine to the Dnieper crossings between Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye (late August), east into the Donets Basin in eastern Ukraine (October) and then to the Taganrog area west of Rostov.

18.7.41: at Dondyushany/Ukraine under Koluft AOK 11.

20.10.41: Donets area in support of XI. Armeekorps/1. Panzerarmee.

29.11.41: unchanged from 20.10.41.

7.2.42: Staffel transferred to Mariupol/165 km W of Rostov this date.

19.4.42: disbanded, and personnel used to form Stabskompanie/NAGr.8 at Simferopol/Crimea. There are no entries for this Staffel in the Gen.Qu. Loss Reports, a most strange and inexplicable occurrence.
