Formation and Training. (Dec 40 - May 41)
Formed or ordered formed second half of December 1940 or beginning of January 1941, probably in France, using assets taken from 3.(H)/41 and equipped with Henschel Hs 126s.[1]
Central Russia and Germany. (Jun 41 - Apr 42)
15.4.41: Staffe1 departed France for the East.
16.4.41: Hs 126 B-1 damaged on landing at Fp. Göppingen near Stuttgart, 10%.
25.4.41: Hs 126 B-1 crash landed at Fp. Göppingen. 65%, 2 injured.
3.6.41: Junkers W 34 belonging to the Staffel damaged in accident at Fp. Posen (Poznan) in NW Poland. 40%.
22.6.41: Brest-Litovsk area in eastern Poland under Koluft Panzergruppe 2/Army Group Center for the attack on the Soviet Union this date - assigned to support 4. Panzer-Division/XXIV. Armeekorps (mot) along a line of advance from the Brest-Litovsk area via the Bobruisk area (2 July) - Gomel (August) - Konotop area (25 August) - Kiev Pocket (16 September) - Orel (3 October) and then forward to the Tula area (30 October) as part of the drive on Moscow.
10.7.41: Hs 126 shot down by a fighter near Rogachev/ESE of Bobruisk, 100%, 1 WIA.
11.8.41: at Stsyetyuti/38 km NE of Krichev under Gruppenfliegerstab 10 in support of 4th Panzer Division.
19.9.41: 2 of the Staffel’s ground personnel WIA at Konotop.
21.10.41: at Orel.
1.11.41: Orel under Koluft Panzergruppe 2 in support of XXIV Motorized Corps.
12.41 – 4.42: withdrawn from operations and returned to the Reich or the occupied West for conversion to the Focke Wu1f Fw 189.
1.3.42: Staffel reported 5 x Fw 189 A-1 on strength and about halfway to full complement.
South Russia. (May 42 - Feb 43)
16.5.42: in transfer to Stalino for assignment to Nahaufklärungsgruppe 12.
28.5.42: Fw 189 crashed at Fp. Kraków/S Poland due to engine failure. 95%, 2 killed and 1 injured.
26.7.42: Oblt. Marion Schaad + 1 both WIA over Kalmykov, aircraft undamaged.
8.9.42: Fw 189 shot up by AA-fire over Stalingrad, 35%, 1 WIA.
18.9.42: Fw 189 shot down by AA-fire over Stalingrad, 90%, 2 KIA.
6.10.42: 2 of the Staffel’s ground personnel WIA near Golubinskiy during enemy air attack.
17.10.42: at Fp.Golubinskiy/50 km WNW of Stalingrad.
1.11.42: Staffel reported 8 x Fw 189A on strength.
12.42: Stalingrad front under NAGr. 7.
1.1.43: in its beginning of the month strength return, 6.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 41 reported no aircraft on hand.
2.43: Staffel reported as totally destroyed in the heavy winter fighting around Stalingrad. A few survivors may have been incorporated into 1./NAGr. 12 in March or early April 1943.
