Aufbaustab der königlich-ungarischen Luftwaffe

(Renovation Staff of the Royal Hungarian Air Force)

Kommandeur:

Gen.Lt. Walter Schwabedissen (c.Jan 45 - c.21 Apr 45)

Formation and History. (Jan 45 - Apr 45)

Established o/a January 1945 to rebuild or overhaul the Hungarian Air Force along German lines with German aircraft and equipment. Previously, the Hungarian AF had an indigenous organizational structure and used aircraft and equipment of multi-national origin. Further, the Air Force suffered heavy losses during the severe fighting in South Poland, eastern and central Hungary from July 1944 to the end of the year. Also, the Horthy government was overthrown in October 1944 and replaced with the fanatically fascist Arrow Cross government which wanted its armed forces integrated with those of the Third Reich. The Stab was disbanded on or about 21 April 1945. [1]
