Aufklärungsgruppe (H) 30

also as: Aufklärungsgruppe Berger

Formed July 1940 in North France as a provisional Stab for the planned invasion of England. Its sole function was to command two Staffeln outfitted to lay smoke screens as part of II. Fliegerkorps operations. On 13 August 1940 the two Staffeln were identified as 4.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 31 and 5.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 32. Various accounts state that the smoke screens were intended to conceal invasion barges, hide mine-laying aircraft operating close to the English coast and/or conceal German coast artillery emplacements in the Pas de Calais area. In any event, the Stab was redundant by November 1940 after the planned invasion had been cancelled. The Stab was formally disbanded in 1941, probably in March or April.[1]
