Dec 1939 – 4(F)./122 began conversion to the Heinkel He 111H.
3 Dec 1939 – 2 Aircraft of Aufklgr 122 operated in the area between St Quentin and Lille.

6 Dec 1939 – FAGr 122 despatched eight He 111s on sorties to the Moray Firth and the Firth of Forth – three of these aircraft were lost, as noted below:-

The reconnaissance of the northern Scottish bases, including Scapa Flow and the Shetland Islands, by 1(F)./122 provided the High Command with the following information:-
Scapa Flow - Apparently not used. Photorecce performed without results.
Shetland Islands - Again no warships detected. However, at Lerwick 3 merchant ships were sighted.
7 Dec 1939 – 1(F)./122 flew a sortie to the Scottish coast – a convoy was spotted that was subsequently attacked by He 111s of I./KG26.
22 Dec 1939 - 2 aircraft of 1(F)./122 were sent on a reconnaissance sortie against a Norwegian coastal convoy. They departed at 08.32 hrs and returned at 14.31 hrs.
