4 Feb 1941 – Ju 88 F6+FN broke off its task at 09.20 hrs Z and had landed at Ploermel at 09.55 hrs Z.[1]

11 Feb 1941 – 5(F)./122 sent a Bf 110 from Jersey on a recce sortie to Southampton. The crew of F6+EN reported a strong enemy fighter defence but returned unharmed 45 minutes after taking off at 15.20 hrs.[2]

13 Feb 1941 – F6+DN of 5(F)./122 departed Jersey at 14.16 hrs to fly a photo and shipping reconnaissance sortie over St George’s Channel and Swansea Harbour. The aircraft landed back at Jersey at 18.45 hrs.[3]

15 Feb 1941 – A Ju 88 (F6+DN) performed the mid-day weather reconnaissance flight covering the area between the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight.[4]

Aircraft of 1.(F)/122 departed at 14.30 hrs Z for a reconnaissance sortie up the English east coast as far as Flamboro’ Head.[5]

15/16 Feb 1941 – three aircraft of 3.(F)/122 landed between 22.45 and 02.30 hrs Z.[6]

16 Feb 1941 – Four aircraft of 1.(F)/122 having operated off the English east coast as far as North Yorkshire landed from their sorties at 08.55; 12.15; 15.00 and 15.15 hrs Z.[7]

17 Feb 1941 – An aircraft of 1.(F)/122 landed from the afternoon sortie at 17.50 hrs Zhaving operated in the Thames Estuary, off Harwich and as far as Yarmouth.[9]

19 Feb 1941 – There were three 1.(F)/122 sorties throughout the day. (a) Took off before 06.20 hrs Z for a weather and shipping reconnaissance flight that encompassed the Thames Estuary to the Norfolk coast. Landing at approximately 08.40 hrs Z.; (b) a weather and shipping reconnaissance flight taking in the Norfolk Coast to the Humber. Landing at about 16.10 hrs Z. (c) The final sortie was a weather reconnaissance to East Anglia which landed by about 18.00 hrs. Z.[10]

20 Feb 1941 – A Bf 109E of 2(F)./122 crash landed in bad weather at Fp.Warnemünde, 10%.

21 Feb 1941 – Three sorties flown by 1.(F)/122 have been identified. (a) Took off about 06.20 hrs Z for a weather and shipping reconnaissance flight that encompassed the Thames Estuary, Lowestoft and East Anglia. Landing at 08.50 hrs Z; (b) a further sortie landed at Calais between 10.30 and 10.45 hrs Z; (c) Another sortie departed before 11.15 hrs Z for East Anglia and the north coast of Norfolk, landing at about 14.00 hrs Z.[12]

22 Feb 1941 – 2(F)./122 Lost one Bf 110 on a reconnaissance sortie over a convoy NE of Whitstable.

An aircraft of 1.(F)/122 flew an early morning weather reconnaissance sortie to the Yarmouth area landing at 08.40 hrs Z.[13]

23 Feb 1941 - 5(F)./122 sent out a Ju 88 (F6+BN) on a shipping reconnaissance sortie to St George’s Channel. The flight departed Jersey at 14.20 hrs, encountered a fighter near the Scilly Isles and landed back at Jersey at 17.15 hrs.[15]

Aircraft of 1.(F)/122 flew three sorties to the English East Coast (a) early morning reconnaissance of the east coast, Thames Estuary and a far as the Humber. (b) two late afternoon weather sorties to East Anglia.[16]


24 Feb 1941 – 2(F)./122 sent Ju 88 (F6+HK) on a sortie to the Humber and the Wash. Ground station repeated warnings regarding fighters. Aircraft landed at 11.20 hrs Z.[17]
