Formation. (Aug 39)

Formed o/a 24 August 1939 at Dievenow/North Germany to take command of the Luftwaffe's naval aviation units deployed in the Baltic area.[1]


Baltic Sea Area and Adjacent Waters. (Sep 39 - Aug 40)

1 Sep 39: Stab at Dievenow - during the campaign in Poland, the Stab was tactically under Marinegruppenkommando Ost (Kiel) and directed naval reconnaissance of Polish harbors, the Baltic and the Gulf of Finland, and attacks on Polish naval forces.[2]

Apr 40: shortly after the occupation of Denmark on 9 April, the Stab moved to Aalborg and provided limited support for the invasion of Norway and the campaign that followed, mainly directing reconnaissance flights and anti-submarine patrols with assigned naval air units.[3]

20 Jun 40: Stab still at Aalborg.[4]

5 Aug 40: Aalborg - Stab renamed Fliegerführer Ost this date.[5]
