Gefechtsverband

Battle Unit or Combat formation.

These were usually ad hoc units created for specific tasks.

Named after their commanding officer or a location.

Subordinate units were existing operational units or elements of units. those units subordinated to the Gefechtverband could and did vary throughout the units short life depending on how the tactical situation changed.

These were provisional formations created to fulfill a short term tactical aim - the usually existed for one or two months.

The stab of these units was usually a pre-existing stab or part of a stab.
