Ordered formed 15 September 1943 at Chantilly near Paris using all or elements of Stab/Höh.Jagdfliegerführer West. Commanded all fighter forces in France under Luftflottenkdo. 3.[1]
France. (Sep 43 - Aug 44)
Nov 43: became operational in western France during the first half of November.[2]
Jan 44: Stab at Chantilly.[3]
26 Jun 44: Stab at Chantilly.[4]
10 and 25 Jul 44: Stab at Chantilly.[5]
20 Aug 44: Stab at Vierzy/12 km SW of Soissons, withdrawing.[6]
3 Sep 44: Stab now at Rochefort/Belgium, withdrawing.[7]
10 Sep 44: moved to Flammersfeld/SE of Bonn.[8]
Western Germany. (Sep 44 - Jan 45)
Oct 44: Stab at Flammersfeld under Luftwaffenkdo. West - commanded all fighter forces deployed in support of ground operations along the Western Front from Holland to the Swiss border.[9]
16 Dec 44: in command of all fighter and ground attack forces used to support the Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge). These operations continued until the Stab was disbanded.[10]
1 Jan 45: from Flammersfeld, Stab planned and directed Operation "Bodenplatte" (Baseplate), a massive low-level attack by nearly 1,000 German fighters on Allied airfields in Belgium and France that resulted in the destruction of some 175 RAF and USAAF planes and cost the Luftwaffe nearly half of the attacking force.[11]
26 Jan 45: Stab officially ordered disbanded, although this process had begun on 15 January, and personnel reassigned to form the new 14. and 15. Fliegerdivisionen. However, in practice the Stab remained functional and operationally active until the end of February when the disbandment finally took place.[12]
