History

Established February 1939 as Inspekteur der Jagd-. Zerstörer- und Schlachtflieger (Inspector of Fighters. Twin-Engined Fighters and Ground Attack Aircraft) under Chef des Ausbildungswesens (from around March 1940).[1]


14 Jul 41: reassigned under Generalstab d.Lw. this date.

15 Sep 41: renamed as above (Gen.d.Jagdflieger).

1943: from September on, responsible for fighters and twin-engine fighters only. The Stab averaged around 34 officers and 123 others, but the total number of positions were reduced to 91 by March 1944. Gen.d.Jagdflieger was responsible for the inspection of all fighter units, the development of tactics, the improvement of hardware, preparation of manuals and instructions, position appointments in the fighter training and replacement units and serving as liaison between the fighter units and OKL in Berlin. During the war the operations command post of Gen.d.Jagdflieger was aboard the OKL command train that carried the call-sign "Robinson", while the administrative and other rear echelons of the Stab were stationed at Berlin-Kladow. Around 15 April 1945 the Stab evacuated the capital and moved to Straubing in South Germany.

17 Jul 42: a Bf 110E-2 assigned to the Stab crashed at Fp. Döberitz near Berlin. 95%.

13 Apr 43: a Stab Bf 109G-6 damaged its tires landing at Fp. Deelen in Holland. 15%.

16 Jul 44: Maj. Georg Hollender reported KIA during an Allied bombing of Berlin-Gatow. Hollender was with Stab/Gen.d.Jagdflieger. No aircraft was involved in this reported loss.
