History
As Chef des Nachrichtenverbindungswesens d.Lw. (Chief of AF Signal Communications) - established prewar, and in February 1939 was subordinate to the Gen.Inspekteur d.Lw.[1]
2 Oct 39: reassigned under Generalstab d.Lw.
12 Apr 44: renamed as above (Gen.Nachr.Führer d.Lw.) - the chief signal officer of the Luftwaffe was also the chief inspector for this branch until 1 April 1944, and had a number of inspectorates under his authority:
- Fernsprech- (Telephone),
- Funk- (Radio),
- Funkaufklärungs- (Radio Intercept),
- Flugsicherungs- (Flight Safety),
- Flugmelde- (Aircraft Warning),
- Funkmess- (Radar),
- Nachrichtengeräte- (Signal Equipment), and
- Ln.-Ausbau- (Signal Construction and Installation).
From 1 April 1944, these inspectorates came under the Chef der Luftnachrichteninspektion (see below).
Nov 44: this very large and technically diversified Stab had 127 officers and some 403 others assigned (excluding those assigned to the inspectorates) - responsible for all matters concerning Luftwaffe signal services and signal units.
