Grossraumtransportgruppe

(Unit Code: N1+)

Formation. (Feb 45)

Formed late February 1945 at Berlin-Schönwalde by renaming (and with the hope of expanding) Grossraumtransportstaffel Ju 352. Equipped with large capacity Ju 352 transports, of which the Luftwaffe only had a few.[1]

Germany. (Mar 45 - May 45)

1-10 Mar 45: Gruppe reduced from 4 to 2 Staffeln and transferred to Tutow-North during this period.

Mar – Apr 45: Gruppe was able to fly very few missions due to the critical shortage of fuel and spare parts. Only in late April did it begin flying some night supply flights over Berlin, which had become surrounded by Soviet forces.

24/25 Apr 45: 4 Ju 352s, assigned to fly anti-tank weapons and munitions to hard-pressed 9. Armee south of Berlin, failed to return to Tutow following this night mission and fate unknown.

25 Apr 45: at Tutow-North under Luftflotte Reich with 23 Ju 352s on strength.

30 Apr 45: transferred from Tutow-North to Grossenbrode, and then on 4 May from there to Eggebeck/20 km SSW of Flensburg in Schleswig-Holstein.

7 May 45: surrendered to British forces at Eggebeck with 109 personnel, 5 Ju 352s and 1 Ar 232. Comment: between 25 April and 7 May, 18 Ju 352 transports belonging to the Gruppe are unaccounted for. Were these unserviceable and deadlined, or were they lost in action or otherwise written off?
