Formed about late March or early April 1941 for the attack on the Soviet Union that began on 22 June 1941.[1]
Central Russia. (Jun 41 - Apr 42)
5.4.41: initially assigned were 3.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 14, 5.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 14 and 6.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 31.
21.6.41: assigned were 3.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 14 and 6.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 31.
22.6.41: Brest-Litovsk area in eastern Poland under Koluft Panzergruppe 2/Army Group Center assigned to support XXXXVI. Armeekorps (mot) (later Panzerkorps) along a line of advance from eastern Poland to Minsk (29 June) - Smolensk (16 July) - Konotop area (25-26 August) - Kiev Pocket (16 September) - and the attack on Moscow (October - December).
6.7.41: Stab at Beresino/E of Minsk under Koluft Panzergruppe 2 with 3.(H)/14 and 6.(H)/31.
30.7.41: Kommandeur Maj. Stainer reported WIA near Yelnya/SE of Smolensk. but no details given.
11.8.41: Stab now at Balturino/50 km SE of Smolensk attached to XXXXVI. Armeekorps (mot)/Panzergruppe 2.
9.41 – 4.42: no specific information concerning the Stab found, but evidently returned to Germany to rest and refit around 1 December 1941.
19.4.42: renamed Stab/NAGr. 3 on or about this date, and probably in Germany at the time.
