Formed about March 1941 (new) for the attack on the Soviet Union that commenced on 22 June 1941.[1]
South Russia. (Jun 41 - Apr 42)
22.6.41: Bug River area in southeast Poland under Koluft Panzergruppe l/Army Group South - assigned to support XXXXVIII. Armeekorps (mot) across western and central Ukraine via Brody - Uman Pocket (3 August) - Kremenchug - Kiev Pocket (September).
23.6.41: subordinated were: 5.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 11, 3.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 21 and 5.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 32.
9.41: after the liquidation of the Kiev Pocket during the third week of September, reassigned to Koluft Panzergruppe 2 and transferred to the Bryansk area for the drive on Moscow beginning 2 October.
10.41 – 12.41: still in support of XXXXVIII Motorized Corps, advanced as far as the Kastornoye-Yelets-Yefremov area by early December.
1.42 – 4.42: the Stab is believed to have been withdrawn from operations and returned to Germany in November or December 1941. If not, then it may have spent the winter at either Kursk or Orel.
4.42: renamed Stab/Nahaufklärungsgruppe 15 on or about 19 April 1942.
