III./KG z.b.V. 323
III./KG z.b.V. 323
Formation. (Apr 43)
Formation of this Gruppen began in March 1943 with a Gruppenstab and 3 Staffeln, almost undoubtedly at either Leipheim/S Germany or at Regensburg-Obertraubling, by re-equipping and retraining the crews of the former KGr.z.b.V. 900. As with I./KG z.b.V. 323, it was equipped with the 6-engine Me 323 transport, a total of 24 being authorized. It is first mentioned in the loss reports on 14 April when a Me 323 belonging to it flipped over on landing at Fp. Regensburg-Obertraubling with damaged rated at 90%. One crew member was killed and Maj. Markus Zeidler plus another man were injured. Before any operations could begin, the Gruppe was renamed III./TG 5 on 1 May 1943.[1]
