Formation. (Jan 40)

Officially formed 1 January 1940 at Dortmund, although there is some evidence that the Stab was already in existence at least a month before this. Controlled the fighter forces assigned to Luftflotte 2 until the second half of May 1941 when it became independent and was reassigned to Luftflotte 3.[1]

Germany then Northeast France. (Jan 40 - Sep/Oct 43)

10 May 40: Stab at Dortmund under Luftflotte 2 for the attack on France and the Low Countries.[2]

Jul 40: Stab at Le Touquet/S of Boulogne under Luftflotte 2 on conclusion of the campaign in the West.[3]

13 Aug 40: Stab at Wissant/20 km SW of Calais on the Channel coast for the air offensive against England (Battle of Britain). For an interesting discussion of the exact location of the Jafü 2 command bunker, see the web link in the footnote. This discussion places it in an abandoned French coastal artillery fortification about 2 to 3 km WSW of the village of Sangatte. Wissant, on the other hand, is about 8 km SW of Sangatte.[4]

Oct 40: Stab now back at Le Touquet.[5]

3 Apr 41: a Bf 108 assigned to the Stab crash landed at Antwerpen, 15%.[6]

12 Apr 41: Bf 109 belonging to the Stab attacked and damaged by an enemy fighter over Le Touquet, 25%.

15 Apr 41: Stab at Le Touquet.[7]

23 May 41: Bf 109E-7 crash landed at Fp.Etaples near Le Touquet, 100%.

31 May 42: Stab at St-Pol - Brias/33 km NW of Arras.

Jul 43: St.Pol - Brias.

Aug 43: St.Pol – Brias.
