Formed June 1941 at Kirkenes in North Norway from all or elements of Stab/ZG 76 as a provisional staff and command to control fighter operations in North Finland over the polar or arctic front. The Stab or at least a command post belonging to it moved forward to Petsamo/Finland in early July 1941. During the six months of its existence, the Stab subordinated and was closely identified with Jagdgruppe z.b.V. Petsamo and, in fact, had the same commander. Ordered disbanded on 25 January 1942 (16-21 March 1942 according to another account) with most of the personnel and assets being used to form Geschwaderstab/JG 5.[1]
