Jagdfliegerführer Rumänien

(FpN: L 52042)

Jagdfliegerführer:

Oberst Bernhard Woldenga (c.1 Apr 43 - c.7 Feb 44)

Oberst Eduard Neumann (c.7 Feb 44 - 4 Sep 44)

Formation. (Mar 43?)

Formed o/a March 1943 at Bucharest-Pipera to control fighter defences, both German and Romanian, over that country and especially over the capital area and the oil fields and refineries at Ploesti.[1]

Romania. (Apr 43 - Sep 44)

7 Jul 43: Stab at Bucharest-Pipera - had a Stabsschwarm with 5(4) aircraft.[2]

11 Jul 43: a Stab Bü 131 crashed near Urziceni, 100%, pilot killed.[3]

7 Aug 43: another Bü 131 struck an obstacle at Fp.Bucharest-Pipera, 80%.

1 Jan 44: Bucharest-Pipera.[4]

19 Jan 44: orders issued this date removing many of the command’s personnel to form the new Stab/Jagdfliegerführer Balkan, although other sources give a date of 7 February 1944. The remaining personnel were re-designated as Jagdabschnittsführer Rumänien, a sector command of lesser size and importance, and moved to a new command and control complex at Bucharest-Otopeni.[5]

c.1 Jul 44: reverted back to its original designation, Jagdfliegerführer Rumänien - it is believed that this measure was taken to reflect a change in its subordination from Jafü Balkan/Lw.-Kdo. Südost to directly under Luftflotte 4.[6]

11 Jul 44: Stab still at Bucharest-Otopeni.[7]

4 Sep 44: Stab ordered disbanded by Luftflotte 4 following the German withdrawal from Romania.[8]
