Formation. (Nov 42)

Formed on or about 9 November 1942 at Trapani/W Sicily as a Geschwaderstab to control all air transport activity from Sicily to the Tunis-Bizerte area in Tunisia, and to the Tripoli-Gabes area in western Libya and southeastern Tunisia, in response to the Allied landings in Morocco and Algeria (Operation “Torch”) in the early hours of 8 November. Under Lufttransportführer Mittelmeer, the Stab remained at Trapani throughout its existence and subordinated the following independent transport Gruppen at one time or another: III./KG.z.b.V 1, IV./KG.z.b.V 1, KGr.z.b.V. S 7, KGr.z.b.V. S 11 and KGr.z.b.V. 600. On 21 April 1943, it was ordered renamed Geschwaderstab/TG 4 at Trapani with effect from 1 May 1943.[1]
