Kampfgruppe z.b.V. 6
(Unit Code: ?)
Formation and History. (Feb 42 - May 42)
Formed during the first half of February 1942, probably at Dęblin-Irena/C Poland, from school units as part of the emergency mobilization of provisional transport formations to help meet the crisis on the northern and central sectors of the Eastern Front prompted by the Russian counterattack west of Moscow in early December 1941. It is not known whether the Gruppe was built out to a Gruppenstab and four Staffeln, but it is said to have consisted of a mixture of different types of aircraft, mainly Ju 52s and Ju 86s. While based at Dęblin-Irena on 18 February, the Gruppe was ordered to transport Polizei-Btl. 306 (600 men) to the airfields at Siverskaya and Krannogvardeisk near Leningrad. On completion of the mission it was to assemble at Warsaw-Okecie for further tasks. Around 6 March it was ordered assigned to the Demyansk air supply operation then underway southeast of Lake Ilmen and took part in this until the end of March. On 31 March, a Ju 86 belonging to KGr. z.b.V. 6 was reported damaged while taxiing at Fp. Pskov, one of the principal airfields used to haul supplies into Demyansk. Sources state that it was then disbanded at the end of March or beginning of April and its aircraft and crews used to fill up other transport units that were still taking part in the Demyansk operation. The official order for the Gruppe’s disbanding was dated 19 May 1942, however.[1]
