Formation and History. (Oct 39 - Apr 42)

Formed o/a 22 October 1939 at Bad Vöslau/Austria by renaming Stab/Aufklärungsgruppe 14.[1]


West

Oct 39 – Jun 40: supported 16th Army’s defensive deployment along the German-Belgian border on the central sector of the Western Front, and from 10 May 1940 the Army’s attack through South Belgium and Luxemburg to the Maginot Line in the Verdun area, and then west-southwest toward Tours.

10 May 40: Koluft AOK 16 subordinated this date: 4 Aufklärungsstaffeln (3.(F)/22, 1.(H)/10, 1.(H)/12, 5.(H)/13), Kurierstaffel 4, 2 Flak-Abt. (I./14, I./26) and Ln.-Abt. 2 (H) (mot.).

Jul 40 – May 41: occupation duty and coastal security in Belgium and Holland.


North Russia

21 Jun 41: Koluft AOK 16 subordinated this date: 3 Aufklärungsstaffeln (1.(H)/12, 2.(H)/13, 4.(H)/23), Kurierstaffel 2, 3 Flak-Abt. (Flakregimentsstab 151 with I./13, I./291, I./411) and Ln.-Abt. 8 (H) (mot.).

Jun 41 – Apr 42: supported 16th Army in the attack on the Soviet Union from 22 June via Lithuania, Latvia, the Lake Ilmen area, north to Lake Ladoga and the encirclement of Leningrad, then from Jan 42 to Apr 42 supported heavy defensive fighting south of Lake Ilmen.

7 Sep 41: Koluft at Shimsk, a small town on the west bank of Lake Ilmen.

Apr 42: Koluft AOK 16 disbanded.
