Formation. (Aug 44)

Formed 29 August 1944 at Niš (Nisch)/Serbia as a joint command from Gen.Kdo. II. Fliegerkorps, which was transferred in from France, and Stab/Feldluftgaukdo. XXX at Belgrade-Pančevo. Initially under Luftwaffenkdo. Südost, and then from October 1944 under Luftflotte 4, the command took over tactical responsibility for air operations over Yugoslavia, western Romania and South Hungary.[1]


North Balkans. (Aug 44 - Nov 44)

Sep 44: Stab at Niš.

Oct 44: Stab now in Belgrade.

15 Oct 44: Stab moving to Szombathely/W Hungary - now under Luftflotte 4.

Nov 44: Stab now temporarily in Zagreb - toward mid-November II. Fliegerkorps regained its identity, although it continued to function as part of the joint command.

Dec 44: Stab (possibly only a forward command post) reportedly at Pécs (Fünfkirchen)/S Hungary.

1 Feb 45: renamed 17.Fliegerdivision - the II. Fliegerkorps component, however, was transferred to the Oder Front on 3 February 1945 and reassigned to Luftflotte 6.
