Kurierstaffel 4


Formation. (Aug 39)

Ordered formed c. 26 August 1939 with 6 aircraft for assignment to Heeresgruppe Süd at Neisse. After the end of the campaign in Poland in exchanged identities with Kurierstaffel 5.[1]

Poland, West and South Russia. (Sep 39 - Oct 43)

Sep-Oct 39: began transferring from the East to the front in the West with station in the vicinity of Koblenz - still assigned to Heeresgruppe Süd (subsequently redesignated Heeresgruppe A.

27 Sep 39: W 34 force landed near Pakoslaw/56 km N of Breslau, 60%.[2]

Feb 40: exchanged designations with Kurierstaffel 5 (5 became 4 and 4 became 5). [3]

May-Jun 40: campaign in the West against France and the Low Countries.

30 Aug 40: Belgium/NE France area assigned to Koluft/Heeresgruppe A.[4]

May-Jun 41: ordered to Silesia/SE Germany for the attack on Russia.

15 Jun 41: transferred from Oels/Silesia to Dębica/SE Poland.[5]

Jul 41: said to be at Starokonstantinov/100 km W of Berdichev.

27 Sep 41: transferred from Uman/W Ukraine to Aleksandriya near Kirovograd.[6]

29 Nov 41: Fi 156 crashed at Poltava due to engine failure, 60%.

1 Feb 42: based at Poltava under Koluft/Heeresgruppe Süd.[7]

18 Feb 42: Fi 156 struck an obstacle while taking off from Poltava, 35%.

16 Jul 42: a man from the Staffel WIA by ground fire at Valuyki/147 km ENE of Kharkov during the advance to the Volga River.

Aug 42: reassigned to Luftwaffenkdo. Don and to be based at Kharkov-North.[8]

4 Feb 43: a Staffel pilot KIA by ground fire west of Stary Oskol/185 km NE of Kharkov.

4 Feb 43: Ju 52 (RF+NB) shot down SW of Stary Oskol, 100%, 4 MIA, c. 20 WIA.

1-15 Oct 43: still in South Russia, but now possibly attached to an AOK - renamed 22./Fliegerverbindungsgeschwader 2.[9]
