Formed 12 April 1940 in Hamburg (new) for the occupation of Norway and established in Oslo by 24 April.[1]

Apr 40 – May 40: occupation of Norway.
10 May 40: Stab in Oslo.
Aug 40 – Oct 40: air offensive against England (Battle of Britain) from Norway.
13 Aug 40: battle HQ or command post at Stavanger/SW Norway.
1 Nov 40 – May 41: anti-shipping operations over the North Sea and along the east coast of England with attacks on coastal convoys and raids on ports and harbors.
Jun 41 – Sep 44: Arctic campaign in Finnish Lapland and North Norway against the Soviet Union along the Murmansk front, attacks on Allied Lend-Lease supply convoys between Iceland and the Russian Arctic ports, and air defense operations against Allied air incursions in Norway from bases in Scotland and the Shetland Islands.
22 Jun 41: Stab in Oslo with a battle staff/command post at Kirkenes in N Norway.
1 Nov 41: battle staff/command post now at Kemi/N Finland.
16 Sep 44: disbanded in Oslo and most of the staff used to form Kommandierender General der deutschen Luftwaffe in Norwegen.

No information has so far come to light about the duty flight assigned to Luftflotte 5, except for the following:[2]
27 Jul 41: He 111 destroyed when a bomb accidently exploded at Fp.Kirkenes/N Norway, 100%.
4 Jul 42: He 111P force landed near Pori/N Finland due to engine trouble, 40%.
7 Nov 42: Ju 52 failed to return on a flight from Nautsi in N Finland to Berlin-Staaken, 100%, crew of 4 plus 16 passengers belonging to III./KG 30 all missing.
11 Nov 42: based at Oslo.
Dec 42 – Sep 44: no information found.
