Formation. (Apr 40)

Formed 6 May 1943 at Smolensk/Central Russia (ex-Luftwaffenkommando Ost).[1]


Central Russia and Poland. (May 43 - Jan 45)

May 43 – Jun 44: offensive-defensive operations along the central sector of the Russian front in support of Army Group Center (Heeresgruppe Mitte), beginning with the failed German counteroffensive at Kursk in July 1943, the withdrawal to positions just east of the line Vitebsk-Orsha-Mogilev-Bobruisk, and ending with the massive Soviet summer offensive, Operation "Bagration", that commenced 22 June 1944.

Sep 43: Stab transferred from Smolensk to Priluki near Minsk and remained there until the end of June 1944.

30 Jun 44: Stab transferred to Warsaw.

Jul 44 – Jan 45: defensive operations along a north-south front running through Central Poland.

2 Aug 44: Stab transferred from Warsaw to Leczyca/NW of Lodz in Central Poland and remained there until around the end of 1944. Following several weeks of movement, the Stab re-established its HQ at Merzdorf, a small village c. 40 km S of Liegnitz in Silesia.


Eastern Germany and Czechoslovakia. (Jan 45 - May 45)

Jan 45 – May 45: defensive operations along the Eastern Front running from the Baltic to Czechoslovakia.

16 Feb 45: Stab withdrew from Merzdorf to Treuenbrietzen c. 45 km SSW of Berlin. While at Treuenbrietzen, a forward command post is said to have been set up at Cottbus near the front lines along the Oder.

29 Mar 45: Stab at Treuenbrietzen

c.15 Apr 45: Stab transferred from Treuenbrietzen to Munich.

24 Apr 45: Marienbad (Mariánské Láznĕ).[2]

8 May 45: Stab dissolved or surrendered, probably in northern Austria or in western Czechoslovakia.

Formation, History and Losses. (Apr 40? - Sep 44?)

Formed 5 1943 at Smolensk/C Russia (ex-Flugbereitschaft Lw.Kdo.Ost), but little else has so far come to light about the duty flight assigned to Luftflotte 6, except for the following:[3]


9 May 43: Fi 156 damaged taxiing at Suponovo, 15%.

8 Jun 43: Fi 156 flipped on landing north of Orsha, 25%.

9 Aug 43: 2 Fi 156s bombed on ground near Spas Demensk, 70% and 60%.

3 Sep 43: Bf 108 bombed on ground at Fp.Konotop, 100%.

24 Oct 43: He 111 H-11 belonging to it reportedly shot down by a fighter at Beauvais (France?), 100%, Hptm. Siegfried Hensel (pilot) + 2 others WIA.
