Subordinate Commands:

Kommando Flughafenbereiche (airfield regional commands) and Fliegerhorstkommandanturen (air base commands), Luftnachrichten (air force signals), Sanitäts (medical), Flak (antiaircraft), numerous ground service and support units located within its territory of authority. These changed frequently and in the absence of surviving source documentation it is not possible to list them accurately or completely.


Formation and History. (Oct 41 - Sep 42)

Formed o/a 23 October 1941 at Borispol/40 km ESE of Kiev in Central Ukraine (ex-Luftgaukommando VIII Gefechtsstab). Provided logistical support for Luftflotte 4 operations in central and northern Ukraine.[1]


South Russia

Stab (headquarters) remained at Borispol through 15 August 1942.

16 Aug 42: transferred to Kharkov.

9 Sep 42: renamed Luftgaukommando Charkow.

Formation, History and Losses. (Oct 41 - Sep 42)

No information has so far come to light about the duty flight assigned to Luftgaukdo. Kiew, except for the aircraft lost and damaged reports noted below and a few scattered location listings from surviving documents. The few reports suggest that the Flugbereitschaft only had approximately 3 to 5 aircraft.[2]


1 Feb 42: Flugbereitschaft Luftgaukdo. Kiew based at Kiev – Post Volinski.

6 Jul 42: a Go 145 belonging to the Flugbereitschaft crashed at Dovlyady/Ukraine, pilot killed.

7 Aug 42: a Klemm Kl 35 crash landed in bad weather near Rovno in western Ukraine, 15%, pilot injured.
