Formation and History. (Mar 43 - Jul 43)
Ordered formed 15 March 1943 in Tunis/Tunisia (ex-Luftgaustab z.b.V. Afrika) to take over the ground organization and airfield commands in Tunisia and provide support for F1iegerkorps Tunis. At the time the order for formation was issued, all or most of the Stab (headquarters) was still at Sousse/Tunisia and it is not known whether the move to Tunis was ever completed. Just a month later, on 15 April 1943, the Stab was ordered disbanded and all responsibilities turned over to Kommando Flughafenbereich 5/XIII in Tunis. This order was not immediately carried out and the personnel were subsequently evacuated from Tunisia to Sicily where they were to be used for the formation of Luftgaustab Sizilien.[1]
