Luftgaustab z.b.V. 20

(FpN: L 40019)

Kommandeur:

Gen.Maj. Karl-Albrecht Mensching (1 Apr 41 - Oct 41)

Formation and History. (Apr 41 - Oct 41)

Formed about April 1941, possibly at Warsaw, for the attack on the Soviet Union beginning 22 June 1941. In June, the Stab was in Warsaw attached to Luftgaukommando II and assigned to the forward support of VIII. Fliegerkorps/Luftflotte 2 during the advance from northeast Poland into Belorussia along the line Bialystok, Minsk and Smolensk. When VIII. Fliegerkorps was reassigned from Luftflotte 2 to Luftflotte 1 on 3 August 1941, Luftgaustab z.b.V. 20’s mission was gradually taken over by Luftgaustab z.b.V. 1 and it was disbanded by early October 1941.[1]
