Formation and History. (Jun 43 - Feb 44)
Formed o/a 1 June 1943 in Athens (ex-Luftgaukommando Südost) as a result of the German decision to reinforce the Balkans following the loss of North Africa and Tunisia and the fear of possible Allied landings in Greece or along the Adriatic coast. Feldluftgaukdo. XXX was set up in Belgrade for Yugoslavia and Feldluftgaukdo. XXIX (Luftgaustab Griechenland) for Greece, Crete and the Aegean. Both were responsible for controlling the airfields and the ground organization and for providing logistical support in their respective areas. The Stab was disbanded o/a 7 February 1944 and used to form Stab/Kommandierender General der deutschen Luftwaffe in Griechenland.[1]
