Luftgaustab Sizilien

(FpN: none issued)

Ordered formed o/a 24 May 1943 at Acireale/Sicily (just north of Catania) using personnel of the disbanded Luftgaukommando Tunis, with subordination under Italuft (Gen.d.dt.Lw. beim Oberkdo.d.königl.ital.Lw.). As initially set forth, it was to take over the ground organization in Sicily and southern Calabria, but there is no evidence that this Stab was ever formed much less operational. An order directing its disbanding or cancelling its formation was issued on 29 June 1943 with effect from 30 June. Instead, a much larger Stab was formed to take its place: see Luftgaukommando Süd. Until this occurred, Koflug 5/VII at Catania took over responsibility for the ground organization in Sicily, except for Flak.[1]
