Lufttransportführer:

Oberst Adolf Jäckel (Dec 42 - Feb 43)

Gen.Maj. Ulrich Buchholz (May 43 - Nov 44)

Formation and History. (Nov 42 - Nov 44)

Believed established late October or early November 1942 at Athens-Tatoi as a provisional tactical staff from all or elements of Geschwaderstab/KG z.b.V. 2. Mission was to direct the airlift of fuel and supplies to Rommel’s forces in North Africa, which were retreating west following the British counterattack at El Alamein. The Stab reported it commenced operations from Athens-Tatoi on 12 Nov 42 with I., II., III. and IV./KG z.b.V. 1, KGr.z.b.V. 400 and KGr.z.b.V. 800. The facts concerning this Stab remain very unclear. It is last mentioned in the surviving documents in December 1942, yet the Luftwaffe personnel records show appointments being made to it until November 1944.[1]
