Formation and History. (c. Jun 41 - Jun 44?)

Formed about June 1941 at Berlin-Tempelhof as Luftverkehrsstaffel Tempelhof, possibly by renaming Flugbereitschaft Tempelhof, under Luftverkehrsgruppe Berlin. Equipped with Ju 52s for auxiliary transport duties assigned by the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM) in Berlin. As Flugbereitschaft Tempelhof, it consisted of 6 DC-2s that had been captured from KLM Airlines and served as a duty flight for the RLM during 1940-41 and possibly before that. The DC-2s were flown and maintained by Deutsches Lufthansa, but what happened to these aircraft has not been determined.[1]


Germany. (c. Jun 41 - Jun 44?)

24 Oct 41: Ju 52 crashed near Petrich (Petrić)/S Bulgaria due to severe icing, 100%, 3 crew killed and 1 injured, plus 2 passengers killed and 2 injured, all of them from Stab/Militär-Befehlshaber Serbien.[2]

8 Feb 42: He 111 belonging to Luftverkehrsstaffel Tempelhof crashed at Rastenburg/East Prussia, 100%, 5 killed including Reichminister Gen.Maj. Dr. Fritz Todt.

Jul 42: a photo exists of Lufthansa Ju 90 “Baden” of Luftverkehrsstaffel Tempelhof landing at or taking off from Trondheim-Vaernes in Norway during summer 1942.[3]

4 Aug 42: mentioned in Luftwaffenpersonalamt assignment orders this date, so still in existence.[4]

16 Jan 43: Ju 52 (BP+KA) reported missing near Rossosh on the Don south of Voronezh, 100%, 1 MIA.

Mar 43: to March 1943 Luftverkehrsstaffel Tempelhof controlled most Ju 90 operations flown in behalf of the Luftwaffe. These were mainly concentrated at Lecce in South Italy during November 1942 and then in support of the Stalingrad airlift from December 1942 In late February 1943 all Ju 90s were ordered back to Berlin-Tempelhof and in March the majority of these and their crews were used to form Lufttransportstaffel 290.[5]

1 Apr 43: W 34 damaged in a storm at Fp. Berlin-Tempelhof, 30%.

20 May 44 Ar 79B bombed on the ground at Fp. Paris-Villacoublay/North, 100% No mention of the Staffel/Gruppe has been found after this date.
