Formation and History
Formed c. summer 1940 as a headquarters and Stab (staff) to command attached Luftwaffe Bau (construction) units. Place of formation not found, but almost certainly in Luftgau XI (comprising most of the territory of northwest and north-central Germany, including the Provinces of Hannover, Oldenburg, Braunschweig, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg).[1]
Oct 40: received a Feldpost number in preparation for service outside of Germany. [2]
27 Nov 41: Stab located in Pskov on the Leningrad Front in North Russia under Luftwaffen-Baubrigade III with an attached Bau-Btle. each at Gostkino, Dno and Siverskaya. [3]
3 Nov 42: prior to this date, the Stab was in charge of all airfield construction in the Leningrad area in conjunction with the renewed German offensive there in Sep and Oct 1942. The Stab departed this date for Varrelbusch/N Germany, turning over all remaining business to Stobau (Stabsoffizier/Bau, i.e., Staff Officer Construction)/Luftflotte 1.[4]
Aug 42 – Jun 43: primary sources have the Stab in Königsberg/East Prussia.[5]
Jun 43: Stab disbanded at Königsberg. [6]
