Nahaufklärungsgruppen
Problems Encumbering the Writing of These NAGr. Histories:
Staffeln using the old designations, e.g., 5.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 11, 2.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 31, etc., were assigned to the Nahaufklärungsgruppen with great frequency and with short duration before being reassigned elsewhere. While there, their losses were charged to and reported by the NAGr.: often prior to July 1943 and always from July 1943. This means that the loss cannot be matched to the Staffel that actually lost the aircraft. This same problem applies to KIA, MIA and WIA personnel reported by the NAGr. who actually belong to one of the (H) Staffeln, but it cannot be determined which one.
Solutions:
(1) the only thing that can be done is to list in each NAGr. history the (H) Staffeln known to have been subordinated to with the suspected time period (as per Holm).
(2) list in each NAGr. history just those (H) Staffeln known to have been subordinated to it that are noted and verified in my own material (skip Holm as his cannot be verified).
(3) a combination of (1) and (2) but without any reference to a time period (the reader can dig this out for himself by looking up the (H) Staffeln listed.
