Formation and History. (Jun 42 - Aug 44)
Formed 1 June 1942 at Siracusa/E Sicily by renaming Seenotbereichskdo. (L) (10). Subordinated to Seenotdienstführer 2. Exercised tactical control over sea rescue assets deployed in the central Mediterranean. Moved from Siracusa to Santa Margherita di Ligure/SE of Genoa following the Allied invasion of Sicily 9/10 Jul 43. In Nov 43, it had sea rescue centers at Savona, Portofino, La Spezia, Piombino, Orbetello and Pola. Stab transferred to La Spezia, the former Italian naval base about 100 km south of Genoa in spring 1944. Disbanded on 19 August 1944. During the course of its existence, Seenotbereichskdo. X and its predecessor and successor Seenotdienst commands in the central Mediterranean claimed a total of 1,913 people rescued between 1941 and the end of the war.[1]
