Seenotbereichskommando XI
Formation and History. (Jun 42 - Aug 44)
Formed 1 June 1942 at Athens-Phaleron/Greece by renaming Seenotzentrale (L) Athen. Subordinated to Seenotdienstführer 2 to September 1943 and then became independent after that date. Exercised tactical control over sea rescue assets deployed in the Aegean, eastern Mediterranean and North Africa. Shortly after formation the Stab moved to Iráklion/Crete to better serve the needs of X. Fliegerkorps, but then returned to Athens-Phaleron in mid-1943. Renamed Seenotgruppe 70 on 19 August 1944.[1]
