Seenotgruppe 81

Formation and History. (Aug 44 - May 45)

Ordered formed (new) 19 August 1944 at Bug auf Rügen with a Stab, Seenotstaffel 81 and Seenotflottille 81. Probably subordinated to Luftflotte Reich. Responsible for sea rescue operations in the western and central Baltic. Very active from Nov 44 to the end of the war in evacuating refugees from East Prussia to ports in West Prussia and Pomerania. Moved from Bug auf Rügen to Guldborg/Lolland in SE Denmark at the end of April and surrendered to the British on 5 May 1945.[1]
