Seenotzentrale (L) Cherbourg

Formation and History. (Aug 40 - Jun 42)

Formed (new) 6 August 1940 at Cherbourg. Responsible for air-sea rescue operations in the western Channel area and around Normandy using 2. Seenotstaffel and its own Seenotflottille equipped with 8 motorboats and 2 Schnellboote (PT-type boats). Exercised operational control over Seenotbezirksstellen Le Havre and Cherbourg. Renamed Seenotzentrale (L) Normandie o/a April 1942.[1]
