Stab./127
Stab/Aufkl.Gr. 127
(Unit Code 6R+)
Formation and History. (April 1943 - October 1943)
Formed 1 April 1943 at Tallinn-Ulemiste/Estonia to exercise command and control over the Gruppe, although the Stab was never formalized nor assigned a Feldpost number. The Gruppe was comprised of Estonian volunteers and eventually some 40 to 50 obsolete and second line aircraft: PTO, RWD, Stampe SV-5, D.H.89A Dragon Rapide, Miles Magister, Heinkel He 50 and He 60, Henschel Hs 126 (8 of these), Arado Ar 66 and Ar 95 (13 of these), Bücker Bü 131 and Gotha Go 145. Organized in three Staffeln, the Gruppe was assigned to fly coastal reconnaissance and anti-submarine patrols in the Gulf of Finland (l. Staffel), transport and liaison duties throughout Estonia and night harassment attacks behind the front and over partisan-held areas. Aufklärungsgruppe 127 was a quasi-independent formation that operated outside the direct authority of the Luftwaffe. This is why the Stab was never formalized and why the commander of the Gruppe had the official title Luftwaffen-Verbindungsoffizier (Lw. Liaison Officer) instead of Kommandeur. The combined strength return for the Gruppe on 1 September 1943 reported 34 He 50, 10 Ar 95 and 4 He 60 on hand, but this appears to omit the old third-line aircraft that the Gruppe is known to have had. On 18 October 1943 the Stab became Stab/Nachtschlachtgruppe 11.[1]
FpN: Stab/Aufkl.Gr.127 (none assigned).
