Stab./31 (2nd)
Stab/Aufkl.Gr. 31 (2nd Formation)
Code: (5D + )
Formed about March 1940, possibly using a few personnel from the former Stab/Aufkl.Gr. 31 that had become Koluft AOK 6 in October 1939. Attached to XV. Armeekorps (mot) (Gruppe Hoth) for the campaign in the West beginning 10 May 1940, following a line of advance from the Aachen area to Liege/Belgium and then to the Dunkirk area. After the armistice on 22 June, the Stab was assigned to lay smoke screens for the planned invasion of England under IV. Fliegerkorps. On 13 August three (H) Staffeln were under the Stab for this purpose: 2.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 12, 4.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 22 and 2.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 31. The planned invasion was later cancelled and by October 1940 the Stab was without a mission. Renamed Gruppenfliegerstab 31 about March 1941.[1]
FpN:Stab/Aufkl.Gr.31 (L 28165).
