Küstenfliegergruppe 106

(Unit Code: M2+)

Stab/Kü.Fl.Gr. 106

Formation and Organization. (Oct 36 - Oct 37)

The initial formation of the Stab is somewhat unclear, but it appears to have been formed (new) on 1 July 1936 at List located on Sylt Island off the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein in north Germany. On 1 July 1937, it was renamed Stab./Küstenfliegergruppe 406,and then re-established on the same date at Norderney in the East Frisian Islands by re-designating Stab./Kü.Fl.Gr. 206.[1]

North Germany and Holland. (Oct 36 - Feb 41)

1937-40: it remained at Norderney until 27 Jul 40 under the operational control of Führer d.Luft West, when it moved to Amsterdam-Schellingwoude in Holland for the Battle of Britain under 9. Fliegerdivision (later upgraded to IX. Fliegerkorps).

Oct 40: Gruppenstab is said to have moved to Barth/25 km WNW of Stralsund near Germany’s Baltic coast, but the date of transfer is uncertain; however, it was definitely there by 17 Jan 41.

Feb 41: around mid- February 1941 it was renamed Stab/Kampfgruppe 106.
