Transportkette Fliegerführer 5

(Unit Code: ?)

Formation and History. (1944)

This tiny element of 3 authorized aircraft first appears in the surviving Luftwaffe documentation on 30 April 1944 when it was shown in Norway with 3 Ju 52s and 1 He 111 on strength. Its parent unit, Fliegerführer 5, was formed around 19-20 April at Trondheim and with almost certainty its Transportkette was stationed there also, at least initially. In May it was shown with the same number of aircraft. The next time it appears is on 20 June and possibly based at Bardufoss/N Norway. On 31 August it reported 3 Ju 52s on strength with station (again) possibly at Bardufoss. The last time it can be identified is on 18 December when it was stationed at Trondheim-Lade. The next day, 19 December, it was renamed Transportstaffel 5. Fliegerdivision.[1]
