Formation. (May - Jun 41)
No information found in primary documents as to exact date and place of formation, but a postwar published source states this occurred in April 1941 at Pruzana (Pruzhany) in East Poland before it moved to Slonim in June. [1]
Central Russia and South Russia. (Jun 41 - Oct 44).
24 Jun 41: Fi 156 (KH+YR) reported missing near Pruzhany/72 km NE of Brest Litovsk, 100%, Oberst Carl von Gerlach, Koluft/Pz.Gr. 2, plus one other both MIA (later changed to KIA).[2]
4 and 6 Jul 41: at Minsk-South assigned to Koluft/Panzergruppe 2. [3]
11 Aug 41: now at Fp. Shatalovka/55 km SE of Smolensk and still assigned to Koluft/Panzergruppe 2.[4]
5 Sep 41: 2 Ar 66s damaged taxiing at Fp. Unecha/225 km W of Orel, 40% and 35%.
22 Sep 41: still assigned to Koluft/Panzergruppe 2.[5]
1 Nov 41: based at Orel under Koluft/Pz.AOK 2.[6]
8 Nov 41: Ju 52 crash landed at Fp. Chern/77 km NE of Orel, 30%.
19 Nov 41: Staffel transferred from Orel to Stubendorf/near Oppeln in Silesia.[7]
Nov 41 – May 42: disbanded at Stubendorf, with assets returned to the schools. Re-established c. 25 April 1942 for assignment in South Russia.[8]
24 Jun 42: Fi 156 crash landed at Kursk, 65%.
Summer - Fall 42: all or elements of the Staffel flew briefly under the designation 2./Störkampfgruppe Luftflottenkdo. 4.[9]
26 Jul 42: Go 145 force landed at Fp. Makeyevka/12 km E of Stalino, 10%.
28 Jul 42: Fi 156 crash landed at Fp. Makeyevka, 60%.
7 Aug 42: Caudron C 445 crashed taking off from Fp. Stalino-North due to engine failure, 25%.
29 Aug 42: Fi 156 crashed taking off from Fp. Kislovodzl (Kislovodsk/N Caucasia?), 30%.
9 Oct 42: Kl 35 struck an obstacle while landing in Pl.Qu. 7966 (near Gorlovka in the Donets Basin), 60%, Obstlt. Kurt Lehmann (pilot) injured.
Nov 42: withdrew for reorganization and re-equipping, and now at Nikolayev/S Ukraine. [10]
7 Feb 43: He 111 H-2 crashed at Nikolayev/S Ukraine, 90%.
16 Feb – 25 Mar 43: as Verb.St. 63 once again, and now at Simferopol’/Crimea.[11]
Apr 43: moved to Poltava, to Kharkov in May and to Stalino in July. [12]
Aug 43 – Apr 44: Ukraine or transferred to southern Italy in August where it was based at Reggio, moved to Udine in northern Italy in September and finally to Zagreb (Agram)/Croatia in January 1944 where it was disbanded in August 1944? The move to S Italy is based on a Staffel member’s flight log and is believed to be altogether incorrect. The member may have been transferred to Italy, but the Staffel did not. [13]
2 May – 13 Jun 44: Czerlany (Gródek)/28 km WSW of Lvov (Lwow). [14]
Jun-Sep 44: almost certainly remained in South Poland, but this needs confirmation.
16 Oct 44: order for disbandment issued by OKL. To be carried out by Luftflotte 6 and completed by 15 Nov 1944. [15]
Oct 44: disbanded. Staffel’s Feldpost number deleted on 20 Nov 44.[16]
