Verbindungsstaffel Tunis

(Unit Code: ?)

also as:Verbindungsstaffel Fliegerkorps Tunis

Formation. (Jan 43)

Formed mid-January 1943 at Tunis and Gabes-West using aircraft and pilots scrounged from a number of commands and units, including Verb.St. 55 (Sicily), Flugleitung/Ob. Südost and Stab/Koflug Sizilien. Until March or April, the 9 aircraft (mostly Fi 156s) and pilots were parceled out 2 or 3 each to serve Fliegerführer Tunis, Fliegerführer 1, 2 and 3, and perhaps one or two other commands in Tunisia.[1]

Tunisia. (Jan 43 - Mar 43?)

23 Jan 43: Bf 109 E-7 bombed on the ground at Tunis-Aouina, 30%.[2]

16 Feb 43: Staffel reported 9(6) aircraft on strength, but type(s) not specified.[3]

24 Feb 43: Staffel mainly at Tunis and Gabes-West.[4]

Mar – May 43: no further information. There is some evidence that the Staffel may have been disbanded in March and its assets reassigned to Flugbereitschaft Fliegerkorps Tunis.
